A Few Homecoming Links

It seems like Homecoming was weeks ago, but I have a few links to pass on. Sorry for the delay!

Homecoming Recap Part I

This week FLEW by, especially with Homecoming events at the end of the week. This was one fantastic Homecoming and this is part one of my recap. I've got some photos to share now and I'll have more a little bit later. Besides, there was too much awesomeness to have only one post!

Friday afternoon, I gave a brief presentation of my experiences in New York during a Common Hour. I presented first, followed by Nicki (she did research at CERN in Sweeden) and Aaron (who did both Asia Term and New York Term). It was really neat to have an audience (professors, students, and alums) to share my experiences with, although it made me miss New York and my past internships!

Then, on Friday night, I got the chance to hang out with some Lambda Chis and...MILLIE! Yes, Millie returned from Chicago (she's on an ACM program there) for Homecoming weekend. We were at Daniel Arthur's; a nice restaurant in Cedar Rapids about halfway between Coe and downtown. It was oh so wonderful to see her (and don't worry, we got in plenty of Hailley-Millie time later this weekend too!). It was also nice to hang out with the Lambda Chis; they were having a little alumni event so it was nice to see some familiar faces I hadn't seen in a while too!

After Daniel Arthur's, it was back to Coe for the Pep Rally. The cheerleaders got us fired up and the we heard from all the fall sport teams about how their season was going. Then, it was time for the coronation of court. We were all introduced and Palmer and Kobe (a fellow Wisconsinite from Racine) were crowned king and queen.

Saturday arrived and it was time for the parade! It was my first Coe Homecoming Parade I had been to (just wasn't on top of things the past couple of years). But this year, I got to ride in a corvette! The cars were owned by the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club and it was pretty awesome. This was my ride:

Unfortunately, my escort and fellow court member, Andrew, had basketball practice and couldn't be at the parade. So I got a corvette all to myself!

Then it was the football game. We played University of Dubuque and unfortunately, we lost. It was crappy weather, very cold and windy. Regardless, it was still fun to cheer on my fellow Kohawks. The court was also announced at halftime.

After the game, I went back to my room, got some homework out of the way and then went out to eat with some friends. We came back to Coe, got ready for the dance, and then danced the night away. I got to see Millie again! We all had a really great time.

MORE TO COME. But now it's back to homework!

Homecoming Announcement

Starting Monday, Coe will be entering Homecoming Week. This Homecoming is extra special because it's the 100th anniversary.

So that's neat and so is the fact that I got elected to Homecoming Court! Woot. I found out earlier this week and it was announced on Friday. It's awesome to have been elected and I am looking forward to spending some quality time with the other nine people on court.

Because of this position, I'll get to participate in a lot of neat Homecoming activities. Get ready for some sweet blog posts!

Homecoming 2012

Kohawk spirit was at an all time high this past week since it was Homecoming! There were activities during the week and campus got busy Friday and Saturday as alumni came to campus to reconnect and remember.

Saturday morning I ventured over to the Writing Center to meet alums and show off our new space. Then it was off to the PUB for a short tour for prospective football players. And it ended up being a BEAUTIFUL day so the tour was lovely.

I dropped the three prospective football players off at the Brat and Bev Tent, sponsored by the Alumni Office and the Student Alumni Association (SAA). I met up with some friends for food before heading into the bleachers to cheer on our Kohawks!

The football team played Buena Vista. President Phifer and his wife, Linnie, were honorary captains since it was Phifer's last Homecoming football game. The Kohawks got off to a bit of a slow start but once we got going, we didn't stop.

The final score was 51-0. We now improve to 4-0 (1-0 in conference play).

After the game it was time to get ready for the dance. I got ready with two good friends of mine, Whitney and Chelsea. We ordered some pizza, put on some music, and just took our time getting ready. Heidi and Alison C. (my other roommates) returned and got ready. Here are just some of the photos we snapped! :)

The dance took place at the Clarion, a hotel about ten minutes from Coe. Transportation is provided to and from the dance so Whitney, Chelsea, and I hopped on a bus and ended up at the dance. It was nice to see people and just enjoy a Saturday night.

The dance got over and the three of us headed back to Coe. We got to our apartment, sat down to rehash the night and fell asleep. Whitney snapped this adorable photo of me. Guess I was tired!

Going to be another busy week for me, but really, does that surprise you? Can't wait to see what next week brings! :)

Homecoming 2011

As you probably saw in my last post, my Saturday was going to be quite busy.  After my post, I went to the football game where Coe had a nice victory.  It was a close game though, most fans were on the edge of their seats the entire four quarters until the last 50 seconds when we had the ball and victory was in our hands.  There were a lot of students there and also some graduates from last year.  It was weird seeing them back on campus but I'm sure they were glad to be back!

Nicki and I

Once the game was over, I did some homework and then got ready for dinner and the dance.  Haley, Alison P., Anna H., Gina, Nicki, and I went over to Nicki's house and took pictures (they will be coming soon).  Then we went to Granite City for supper.  There were other Homecomings going on so we had to wait a bit but while we were waiting Haley took some more pictures!  The food was delicious (I had smoked salmon!) so it was all worth it.

Me all dressed up!

Post dinner we ended up back at Coe and took a shuttle to the Clarion, where the dance was held.  Again, it there was a little waiting but we finally arrived at the dance.  There were a lot of Coe students there and I spent a lot of time mingling and seeing how others' Homecomings were going.  I would say I was at the dance for about two hours.  Then I came back to Coe and went to sleep.  My busy day was finally done.

Homecoming Saturday!

Hello!

It's Homecoming Saturday and the campus is excited!  The football game starts at 1 PM versus Simpson so let's hope for a Kohawk victory!  I just gave a tour to a prospective football player which was super fun and went well.  The plans for the day are as follows:

- Football Game
- Dinner with Haley, Alison P., Anna H., Nicki
- Homecoming dance

Should be lots of fun!  Expect a post soon on all my adventures!

Happy Saturday!

Cirque de Coeil : HOMECOMING 2010

Our Homecoming Dance group!
All right so last week was Homecoming and it was a blast!  For me things really got kicked off with the Homecoming Concert on Friday night.  Concert band, jazz band, choir, and orchestra all performed pieces and the concert ended with Coe school spirit songs.  Later there was the coronation of the king and queen followed by a bonfire near Eby Fieldhouse.

My friends and I enjoying the football game!
On Saturday there was the football game and our football team took on Wartburg.  It was a BEAUTIFUL day and a perfect to watch football.  Sadly, we lost but we put up a good fight.  Then it was time to dance!  The Homecoming Dance, Cirque de Coeil, was Saturday night from 9:30 PM to 1:00 AM.  It took place at the Crowne Plaza, which is only about seven blocks from Coe, not even a mile away.  There were shuttles to take people to and from or you could walk if you didn't want to wait.  Some Coe students rented rooms at the Plaza so they wouldn't have to worry about getting back to Coe in the wee hours of the morning.  A ton of students were at the dance and we all had a great time.

There are other Homecoming festivities that I didn't discuss because I didn't have a chance to go to them.  There was a Powderpuff Tournament (girls playing football) and boys' volleyball tournament for the athletes and Homecoming Follies for those who would like to showcase a talent of theirs.  I hope that next year I'll get to check out more of the Homecoming events but for my first year, I had a great time!
